									<p>On 19 May 2026, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) underscored its pivotal role in regional academic integration by participating in the high-profile "Roundtable on Deepening the Integration of Talent, Education, and Industry in Shandong, Hong Kong, and Macao". This significant event coincided with a high-level Forum for the Shandong-Hong Kong-Macau Higher Education Alliance, which brings together 17 leading member institutions across the regions to co-promote student learning, academic and research collaborations, and university-industry-business engagements.</p><p>Held at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel during the <strong>Hong Kong-Macau-Shandong Week</strong><strong> (18-22 May 2026)</strong>, the Forum and Roundtable were hosted by high-level provincial authorities, including the Shandong Provincial Education Department and Shandong University. The event was officiated by key government officials from both the HKSAR Government and the Government of Shandong, with Dr Jeff Sze, Under Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government, delivering an opening speech.</p><p>Professor Mok Ka-ho, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Dean of the Graduate School, and Professor Mark Shuttleworth, Dean of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL) of HSUHK, representing HSUHK to engage in strategic discussions with government leaders and university heads, exploring synergistic opportunities in cross-border talent cultivation and the "Triple Helix" integration of education, science, and industry. During the Forum, Professor Mok was also interviewed by mainland media, sharing insights on how HSUHK can work creatively with universities in Shandong to enhance the internationalization of higher education and foster wider engagements in the Asian region.</p>								</div>

									<p><strong>Formalizing Collaboration: The HSUHK-SDVUFA MoU Signing</strong></p><p>The morning reached a significant milestone with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HSUHK and the <strong><a href="https://baike.baidu.com/en/item/Shandong%20Vocational%20University%20of%20Foreign%20Affairs/929312">Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs (SDVUFA)</a></strong> to promote student and staff exchanges, academic and research collaborations, and other forms of inter-university partnerships.</p><p>Following the signing ceremony, Professor Mok and President Sun from SDVUFA, alongside representatives from both universities, engaged in deep, in-depth discussions on future collaborations. They agreed to actively kickstart this institutional partnership by promoting a student mobility programme in the coming summer of 2026, which will lay the groundwork for subsequent academic and research initiatives. Key areas of focus also included international education and the joint development of faculty members.</p><p>Participants in these discussions included Mr. Dannie Cheung, member of the HSUHK Council; Professor Mark Shuttleworth, Dean of STFL at HSUHK; Ms. Audrey Jiang, Founder of the Butterfly Development Education Foundation; Ms. Emily Wong, Manager from the Graduate School; and Ms. Scarlett Leung, Senior Manager of STFL. He then delivered a well-received invited talk at the Institution of Education (IOE), University College London (UCL), where he presented his latest research on Hong Kong's vision to establish itself as an international higher education hub.</p><p><strong>Visionary research on education hubs</strong></p><p>Drawing on comparative perspectives, Professor Mok analysed how the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Malaysia have successfully attracted international doctoral students. He offered fresh insights into the distinctive features of Hong Kong's hub initiative and its potential to carve out a unique position within the global landscape. The presentation formed part of the Centre for Global Higher Education's webinar series, associated with the University of Oxford, and attracted strong engagement from both on-site and online participants. 									<h4><strong>Advancing student global mobility </strong></h4><p>At Durham University, Professor Mok signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that paves the way for joint academic programmes, enhanced research collaboration, staff exchanges, and co-hosted international symposium and seminar series.</p><p>During his visit to the University of Glasgow, Professor Mok held productive discussions with the Dean of the School of Education and senior academic leaders to explore collaborative opportunities in teaching and research, with a strong emphasis on promoting international student mobility.</p>								</div>

Organised by <strong>the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education</strong> and co-organised by <strong>South China Normal University</strong>, together with <strong>the Graduate School</strong> and <strong>the School of Interdisciplinary Studies of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK),</strong> the seven-day programme brought together core psychological education teachers from Guangdong for an intensive period of academic learning, school-based observation and professional exchange.</p>
<p>The programme focuses on four core objectives<strong>: "Integration, Expansion, Synergy, and Transformation".</strong>&nbsp;Through a carefully designed curriculum that bridged theoretical development and practical application, participants examined macro-level policy, school-based practice and social support systems, with the aim of translating Hong Kong's experience into actionable approaches in Guangdong.</p>								</div>

In the specialised sessions, numerous Hong Kong education experts and principals shared insights on topics such as systemic leadership, whole-school mental health ecology, emotional education practices, adolescent support, and the integration of school, family and community resources.</p><p>These high-quality professional exchanges broadened participants' understanding of mental health education in Hong Kong and offered practical insights for strengthening school-based well-being initiatives upon their return to Guangdong.</p>								</div>

<p>The programme also included visits to community organisations and social service settings, further broadening participants' understanding of Hong Kong's mental health support ecosystem. These included a cultural study tour in Central, as well as thematic exchanges with Caritas Dr. &amp; Mrs. Olinto de Sousa Integrated Family Service Centre, Stewards Youth Outlook, and Stewards Take Your Way Clubhouse (Sha Tin).</p>
<p>Through these exchanges, participants explored the roles of family services, early intervention, community-based support and rehabilitation-oriented care in youth mental health. The visits reinforced the importance of the "home-school-community" triad in safeguarding young people's growth and well-being.</p>								</div>

									<p><strong>School visits and field study</strong></p><p>A key feature of the residency was the immersive school-visit component, during which participants visited a number of distinctive primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Through classroom observation, dialogues with principals and professional discussions, they gained first-hand insight into the diversity and innovation of Hong Kong's educational practice in mental health support, positive education, SEN (Special Educational Needs) provision and whole-person development.</p><p>Among the schools visited were:</p><ul><li><b>HKUGA College</b>, which demonstrated a whole-school positive education approach centred on the "4Rs".</li><li><strong>Catholic Mission School</strong>, which showcased a people-centred happy campus built around servant leadership.</li><li><strong>The Hong Kong Sea School</strong>, where experiential learning and discipline training were used to foster students' self-confidence, responsibility and resilience.</li><li><strong>Fortress Hill Methodist Secondary School</strong>, which shared its SEN support strategies based on life planning.</li><li><strong>Tseung Kwan O Methodist Primary School</strong>, which presented its early-stage approach to building a protective network for students' physical, mental and spiritual well-being.</li></ul><p>These vivid examples offered participants a wide range of educational perspectives and encouraged them to reflect on how mental health education can be integrated into curriculum design, school culture, student support and cross-professional collaboration.</p>								</div>

									<p><strong>A shared future for mental health education</strong></p>
<p>The programme enabled participants to gain a systematic understanding of Hong Kong's theories and practices in mental health education while inspiring deeper reflection on innovation in school-based support systems. Participants expressed their intent to bring back what they had learned, seen and felt in Hong Kong, and put their learning into practice to strengthen student support in their own schools in a more targeted, comprehensive and caring way.</p>
<p>The successful conclusion of track programme reflects the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education's strong commitment to developing a professional mental health teaching workforce, as well as the active contribution of South China Normal University and HSUHK in advancing Guangdong-Hong Kong educational collaboration. Looking ahead, both sides will continue to deepen exchanges and mutual learning, and work together to promote high-quality development in mental health education across the Greater Bay Area.</p>								</div>

									<p><strong>Redefining Global Talent Mobility in a Multipolar World</strong></p><p>A primary highlight of the visit was Professor Mok's keynote lecture, <strong>"Doctoral Mobility, Geopolitics, and Global Higher Education: The Hong Kong Experience from a Comparative Perspective".</strong> Addressing a capacity audience, Professor Mok noted that while the global international student population is projected to reach nearly <em>nine</em> million by 2030, traditional "Push-Pull" and "Human Capital" theories are no longer sufficient to explain modern migration patterns.
