Introduction

In the last two decades, we have witnessed significant demographic changes taking place in East Asia with the rapid rise of ageing populations but less young people in Asia. In particular, East Asian societies face the challenges in managing the rise of older people, while population growth in some Southeast Asian societies also require special policy provisions. This international symposium chooses the theme of "The Rise of Ageing Populations: Challenges, Coping Strategies and Policy Implications", inviting scholars and researchers to gather together to critically examine the issues in managing demographic changes in Asia with focus on exploring coping strateiges and policy implications when managing inter-generational conflicts, tensions and communications.
