Graduate School cohosts the China and Higher Education International Conference 2024

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, and the University of Manchester co-hosted the "China and Higher Education Conference 2024" (ChinaHE24) international conference on November 18-19 at Lingnan University. The conference explored how Chinese higher education transformed under the influence of geopolitical factors. The conference attracted over 150 speakers and participants from various regions, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, the UK, Finland, Mexico, and various African countries.

The theme of this conference focused on the efforts made by universities, industry partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to establish partnerships that promote innovation, knowledge transfer, and skills development to meet the evolving demands of higher education, the economy, and society.

Professor Mok Ka-ho, the Provost and Vice President (Academic and Research), Dean of Graduate School at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong officiated the conference with his keynote speech, entitled "China's Approach to Inward Student Mobility since 1949: A Critical Review of the State Role from Historical and Political Economy Perspectives." His presentation highlighted the evolution of China's policies regarding inward student mobility (ISM), which had seen significant growth since 1949, influenced by both educational and geopolitical factors. He emphasized that the Chinese government has strategically promoted student mobility, not only attracted inbound students but also encouraged outbound students to achieve the internationalisation of higher education.

Other keynote speakers included representatives from the University of Hong Kong, National Chengchi University in Taiwan, and Durham University in the UK, who discussed key issues impacting international higher education.

In alignment with Professor Mok's visionary leadership, Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong is dedicated to promoting international collaboration and enriching student learning experiences. We are committed to continuously enhancing our academic programmes and research initiatives to reflect the evolving global landscape of higher education.
