Postgraduate Career Development Support Programme's First Session: A Resounding Success

The Postgraduate Career Development Support Programme, co-organised by the Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) and the Shatin Baptist Church Education Centre, officially kicked off with its first session on the evening of 11 February 2025. The event drew a large crowd of graduate students, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Through engaging presentations and interactive sessions, students explored the workplace landscape in Hong Kong, laying a solid foundation for their future career planning. The organisers expressed their gratitude for the enthusiastic participation and look forward to continuing to provide valuable support in upcoming events.

The seminar began with Emily Wong,  Manager of Graduate School at HSUHK, introducing the HIGH Programme and Postgraduate Career Development Support Programme. This series of activities aims to foster holistic student development and equip them with essential workplace skills. Following this introduction, Professor CHOY Siu-kai, Associate Dean of Graduate School presented a commemorative gift to the Shatin Baptist Church Education Centre in appreciation of their generous support.

Workplace Wisdom Sharing: Romney Tin

The first seminar featured guest speaker Mr Romney Tin, who shared his insights on the workplace in an interactive format. As the Managing Director of his family toy business, Romney returned to Hong Kong after graduating from a university in the United States in 1985. Over the past forty years, he has focused on one career, the toy industry, including market expansion and operational management.

At the start of the seminar, students eagerly posed questions about entrepreneurship, business operations, and human resource management. Some inquired about achieving a balance between family and career, while others expressed a desire to understand global market demands and develop platforms to assist those in need. Mr Tin encouraged students to invest in themselves by increasing their self-awareness and emphasised that "you can always find more solutions than problems." He offered different perspectives to help students understand the industry and their own positioning within it.

The seminar was rich in content and was originally scheduled to conclude at 9 PM but was extended to 9:30 PM due to the lively discussion. In a delightful ending, Mr Tin distributed copies of his latest book, and students eagerly lined up for autographs, creating a warm and energetic atmosphere.

Next Tuesday: Exploring Career Advancement in the Hospital Authority

The next seminar will be held on 18 February 2025, featuring guest speaker Ms Amy Ho, Financial Manager with 12 years of experience in the Hospital Authority. She will share her journey and provide insights into the structure and roles within the Hospital Authority. This is a rare opportunity for students interested in public healthcare positions to gain valuable insights into job opportunities in Hong Kong—don’t miss out! Seats are limited, so please register as soon as possible.
