Graduate School and Globalisation, Internationalisation, Localisation and Translation Research Centre (GILT) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and the University of Manchester successfully hosted an International Roundtable cum Research Workshop on 20th November 2024 at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, supported by the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP). The Roundtable discussed the impact of internationalisation and transnational education on student learning, teaching, and administrative management. The Roundtable brought together scholars, faculty members, and doctoral researchers from both UK and local universities, participating in person and online.

In promoting Hong Kong as an International Education Hub in Asia, various scholars emphasized the importance of university authorities in supporting overseas and non-local students, especially as these students face various adaptation challenges while studying in Hong Kong. To successfully promote the "Study in Hong Kong" brand, it is essential to create a friendly and harmonious learning environment that makes overseas students proud to choose Hong Kong as their place of study. Furthermore, universities should strengthen collaboration with institutions both locally and internationally to create cross-disciplinary and diverse learning experiences.

Speakers at the Roundtable also mentioned the impact of AI technology on international education, highlighting the need to leverage innovative technologies to transform teaching. However, they stressed that the primary focus should remain on enhancing the student learning experience, rather than allowing technology to replace the collective learning experience of students.

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and the University of Manchester will continue to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration and will host more research activities in the future to benefit students and promote the teaching goal of "Research with Impact, Impact with Care."
