Postgraduate Conference 2025: Navigating Complex Social Problems through Interdisciplinary Approaches – Call for Paper

Introduction

In an era characterised by rapid technological advancement, globalisation, and increasing interconnectedness, the world faces a multitude of complex social problems that defy simple solutions. Issues such as climate change, inequality, migration, and public health crises require a nuanced understanding and collaborative effort that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. The Postgraduate Conference 2025 aims to bring together postgraduate students, researchers, and academics from diverse fields to explore and propose innovative solutions to these challenges.

The Postgraduate Conference 2025 is designed to foster a platform for intellectual exchange and collaboration among the next generation of scholars and professionals. The conference will focus on the theme of "Navigating Complex Social Problems through Interdisciplinary Approaches," emphasising the importance of integrating knowledge and methods from various disciplines to address the multifaceted nature of today's social issues. Invited speakers and students are encouraged to connect or draw implications from their papers for research impact creation and training.

The conference shall provide these opportunities for students:

  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to postgraduate studies
  • Comparative and international research perspectives
  • Networking among students across disciplines and institutions, both within and outside of Hong Kong
  • Innovative approaches to doing postgraduate studies across disciplines in the new digital age

Call for Papers (Oral Presentation)

Proposals are now invited to the conference. Proposals in Social Sciences (broadly defined to include those in public health and the built environment and so on), Data Science, Environmental Science, Business, and Arts and Humanities. Papers from other fields may also be considered.

Students can submit proposals that are discipline-specific or interdisciplinary. The intended presentation can be completed research or a research proposal. It can focus on any or a combination of these thematic areas:

  • Theoretical discourse
  • Methodological reflections
  • Empirical research
  • Literature review and research agenda
  • Comparative research

All research postgraduate students who wish to present their paper at the conference are required to submit an abstract of approximately 250 words by 23 February 2025 HKT (GMT+8).

Scholarships for Research Postgraduate Students from Developing Countries

Scholarships may be provided for research postgraduate students from developing countries studying outside Hong Kong, such as those enrolled in research postgraduate and professional doctorate programmes. The scholarships aim to support and facilitate participation in this postgraduate conference, covering up to a specified amount for travel and accommodation.

How to Apply:

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must upload the following documents at the online registration form:

  1. A two-page CV
  2. A recommendation/support letter from their supervisor
  3. A short paper, which should include an abstract, background, methodology, key findings, and discussion (maximum 3,000 words)

All documents must be uploaded to the registration form HERE, and submit it by 26 January 2025 (GMT+8). Applications received after this date or submitted without the required documents will not be considered. Please refer to the system for further details. The Best Paper Award for Lingnan Research Postgraduate Students

The Best Paper Award will be presented to three outstanding papers by Lingnan research postgraduate and professional doctorate students at the Postgraduate Conference. Each awardee will be entitled to be reimbursed up to HK$25,000 for research conference-related expenses, for example International Postgraduate Summer School, conference registration fees, travel, and accommodation.

Eligible students who would like to be considered by the Panel for the Award are required to upload a short paper to the registration form HERE, and submit it by 23 February 2025 HKT (GMT+8). The short paper should include an abstract, background, methodology, key findings and discussion (maximum 3,000 words).
