HSUHK hosted Orientation for Postgraduate Students 2025 Welcomes Postgraduate Students: Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) proudly hosted its Orientation for Postgraduate Students on 4 September 2025, welcoming over 760 new students, including both in-person and online participants, to its academic community. This landmark event, themed "Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination," aimed to empower students to embrace innovation, make meaningful contributions, and excel in their academic and professional endeavors.

Welcoming Ceremony

A central highlight of the event was the Welcoming Ceremony, which brought together faculty members and students in person as well as via live broadcast, creating a wonderfully warm and lively atmosphere. Professor Simon Ho, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), welcomed incoming postgraduate students at the opening of the new academic year, emphasising the University's commitment to nurturing future leaders and change-makers through holistic education.
President Ho underscored the transformative nature of postgraduate education. He emphasised that pursuing a postgraduate degree is not solely about expanding professional knowledge or advancing one's career; it is also about fostering holistic growth and developing leadership qualities. President Ho encouraged students to embrace challenges, engage in meaningful collaboration and discussions, and play an active role in HSUHK's dynamic, innovative, and supportive community.

Echoing this sentiment, Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice President (Academic and Research) of HSUHK, highlighted that the theme of this year's orientation, "Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination," reflects the University's belief in the ability of postgraduate students to shape the future. He noted that their ideas, research, and leadership will play a pivotal role in defining tomorrow's world. As the Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Mok reaffirmed the Graduate School's mission to cultivate students into caring professionals with a global perspective and a strong sense of purpose.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring opening speech by Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) of HSUHK, themed "Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination".

Adding a special touch to the occasion was a talent performance by HSUHK postgraduate students and alumni. The group performed the iconic song Red Sun, delivering an inspiring message of resilience and hope through its powerful lyrics. Encouraging new students to stay hopeful, never give up, and remain optimistic about their postgraduate journey, this heartfelt performance perfectly aligned with the event’s theme, “Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination,” and reinforced the importance of faith, perseverance, and a positive outlook in striving toward future success.

Welcoming Fair

Another highlight to the Orientation Day is the launch of Welcoming Fair, which is designed to non-local postgraduate students. The fair offered students practical resources and vital information on academic and personal success, featuring key presentations from government departments, university support services and broader community organizations.

Participating agencies included:

  • Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data;
  • Office of the Communications Authority;
  • New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office of the Hong Kong Police Force;
  • Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department and local NGOs.

The orientation successfully set the tone for the academic journey ahead, inspiring the new cohort to lead with vision, embrace global perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to society. By combining intellectual exploration, innovative research, and professional development within its unique Liberal + Professional education model, HSUHK continues to shape tomorrow's leaders and achieve its vision of nurturing transformative, impactful professionals.
