HSUHK Joins the First Residential Early Career Researcher Autumn School at Oxford

Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), co-organised the Early Career Researcher Autumn School with the Centre for Global Higher Education (CGHE) of the University of Oxford and the University of Johannesburg from 10 to 12 September 2025. The event was held at the University of Oxford's Department of Education for enhancing the research capabilities and publication outcomes of early-career researchers.

The Autumn School attracted 20 participants from across the globe to engage in collaborative research and discussion on research methods and grant application opportunities. The Autumn School was led by Professor David Mills, Director of CGHE; and Deputy Directors: Professor Mok, Professor Thani Lewis, and Dr Lee Rensimer. The attending researchers were from a diverse range of regions, including Africa, the UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, the USA, Canada, Russia, Poland, South America, India, and other European countries. Dr WAN Kin Man and Dr KE Guoguo from the School of Transdisciplinary Studies attended the Autumn School.

During the Autumn School, Professor Mok shared insights from his own academic journey, from his beginnings as an early career researcher to his current role as a university leader. He called for establishing a strong learning and research community for young scholars, emphasising collaboration, wider engagement and entrepreneurship in higher education research.

Professor Mok also stated the importance as scholars and educators, “we must care about student learning and conduct impactful research to benefit the wider society.”
