Million Talents Teacher Development Initiative for Primary and Secondary School Teachers Kicks Off at HSUHK

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) today welcomed 60 distinguished class teachers from Guangdong Province under the “Millions Talent Development Initiative”commenced its ten-day professional exchange from 13 to 22 October 2025. Under the commission of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, this initiative is co-organised by South China Normal University, Graduate School and School of Transdisciplinary Studies of HSUHK, the programme aims to foster professional growth and strengthen education ties across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Professor Joshua Mok, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) of HSUHK, delivered a welcome address highlighting the significance of Guangdong-Hong Kong educational cooperation to enhancing basic education across the Greater Bay Area. Professor Zhang Youliang from South China Normal University took the stage to extend heartfelt thanks to HSUHK and all partner organizations. He emphasized their collective dedication to fostering stronger collaborative ties and promoting innovation in regional education. The trainee representatives, Li Mudi and Deng Xiaoman, likewise voiced their eagerness to embrace the opportunity through dedicated participation in the program.

Following the ceremony, the programme opened with a keynote lecture delivered by veteran educator Dr Stanley Wong, a retired principal, who offered valuable insights into Hong Kong’s education system, its policy landscape, and pathways for teacher professional development.

Designed to address real-world classroom challenges, the programme is structured around two thematic tracks: Decoding the Wisdom of Nurturing Talent in Hong Kong: Empowering Outstanding Class Teachers in the Greater Bay Area for senior secondary teachers, and Cultivating Hearts and Unveiling Hong Kongs Wisdom: Building Thriving Classes in the Greater Bay Area for junior secondary educators. Beginning with policy perspectives, the training helps participants understand both the distinctions and synergies among education systems in the region, laying a foundation for innovative practice. 

Through school visits, classroom observations, and interactive workshops, teachers will explore adaptable strategies to enhance professional competence and cross-disciplinary thinking. The programme aims to equip participants with the confidence and skills to foster student growth and contribute meaningfully to educational integration in the GBA.

This initiative opens a new chapter in regional educational cooperation, creating pathways for shared growth and lasting impact through dialogue and collaboration.
