Nestled on the western coast of Lantau Island, Tai O is celebrated for its stilt houses, vibrant fishing culture, and scenic waterways. This immersive excursion was designed to foster a deeper connection between students and the local community, offering a firsthand understanding of Hong Kong's unique coastal heritage and traditional ways of life.
The day's activities were a blend of guided exploration and hands-on workshops, allowing students to engage with time-honoured traditions. The experience was centred around several key cultural activities, including a guided tour of the iconic stilt houses perched over the waterway, where students learned about the architectural ingenuity and community life that has defined this traditional village for generations. Participants also took part in interactive workshops, experiencing the traditional process of making salted eggs and learning to prepare delicious Tea Guo (茶粿), a traditional steamed dumpling, which provided insight into the flavours and craftsmanship of local snacks.
