- 12 December 2025
Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) hosted the "Pre-arrival Online Information Session: Off-campus Accommodation & Anti-Scam Awareness" on 12 December 2025 (Friday), attracting over 90 enthusiastic participants from the 2025-26 January Intake Cohort of taught postgraduate students and their parents. This session provided practical support to help non-local students prepare for living and studying in Hong Kong.
Practical Advice on Off-Campus Accommodation
Mr Denny Kan Po-sang, Assistant Manager (Residential Colleges) of the Student Affairs Office, provided a helpful overview of the local rental market. He detailed various housing options and broke down daily living expense budgets, including rent, utilities, food, and transportation. He also emphasised key tenancy contract matters, such as maintenance responsibilities and termination clauses. Senior students were also invited to share their personal rental experiences and recommendations for student-friendly neighbourhoods balancing affordability, convenience, and lifestyle ambience.
Fraud Prevention and Safety Awareness
Mr Chan from the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office of the Hong Kong Police Force, elaborated on common scams targeting newcomers, with a focus on fake rental ads, online shopping scams and telephone fraud. He taught participants how to recognise warning signs, verify online shopping platforms, identify suspicious messages, and use official reporting channels effectively. In addition, the session also addressed the latest issues related to drugs, including the risks of abusing the controlled substance etomidate, and urged students to stay away from drugs.
Graduate School emphasises comprehensive support for postgraduate students, extending beyond academics, and will continue providing various practical information through seminars and information sessions.
