Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination: HSUHK empowers new postgraduate students with Orientation 2026

The Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) successfully held the Orientation for Postgraduate Students 2026 on 3 September, welcoming a record high of over 1,200 new students under the theme "Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination." Marking a vibrant start the new year, The cohort brings together includes postgraduate students from the Hong Kong SAR, Chinese Mainland, Australia, Canada, Singapore, the US, Pakistan, India, Russia, and other regions, reflecting HSUHK's growing appeal as an international learning community.

Inspiring Welcoming Ceremony Sets Tone for Academic Excellence

The central highlight of the day was the Welcoming Ceremony. The ceremony opened with a warm welcome from President Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho, who encouraged new students to embrace innovation, broaden their horizons, and actively engage in the vibrant learning community at HSUHK. He reaffirmed the event's theme, "Leading the Future, Beyond Imagination", which underscores the University's mission to develop professionals with a global vision and a deep commitment to society.

Following the President's welcome, Professor FU Ho-ying, Jeanne, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), delivered opening remarks. Professor Jeanne emphasised the University's strong support system for postgraduate students and encouraged them to make the most of the diverse opportunities available both inside and outside the classroom. She also introduced the University's strategic vision for nurturing talent and fostering innovation, urging students to take an active role in shaping their learning journey.

The ceremony continued with an inspiring talent performance by alumni and current postgraduate students, who took to the stage to perform "Shine Your Way". Their powerful rendition brought a vibrant warmth to the hall, reminding every new student in attendance that their unique talents and dedication will illuminate their path forward at HSUHK.

Essential Services and Support for Postgraduate Students

To help students navigate their postgraduate journey, key support units presented essential information during the ceremony. Professor Choy Siu-kai, Dean of the Graduate School, introduced postgraduate study pathways, academic development opportunities, and the wide range of research and enrichment activities available to students. Mr Michael Cheng Sai-fuk, University Librarian, shared information on library research services, facilities, and academic resources. Mr Delon Wong Yat-cheung, Director of Information Technology, provided an overview of ITSC services, including IT support, campus network, and digital learning tools. Dr Cheung Pui-sze, Director of Student Affairs, presented various student development initiatives, wellness programmes, and co-curricular activities designed to enhance students' overall university experience.

To strengthen students' personal safety and security awareness, the ceremony featured talks by external guest speakers. Senior Inspector Vangary Li Jinpeng of the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office delivered an engaging anti-scam talk, offering practical tips on identifying and avoiding common scams targeting university students. Inspector Vincent Li Kam-ho of the Customs and Excise Department briefed students on prohibited and controlled items, reminding them to stay law-abiding when travelling and to be mindful of customs regulations. Concluding the session, Mr Cheng Chun-ki, Inspector from Customs and Excise, briefed students on remittance traps to help them navigate money services safely and avoid financial scams.

Vibrant Welcoming Fair Fosters Campus Connection

At the Welcoming Fair, students explored many interactive booths hosted by university departments, government organisations, and community partners to connect and discover campus resources.
