Graduate School (GS) and the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) are excited to announce the inaugural seminar in our series, titled "Bridging Experience and Education: Effective Strategies for Teaching Mature Students," scheduled for 2 April 2025.
We are pleased to welcome Professor David Tse Kwai-che, Chair Professor in the Department of Marketing at the School of Business, who will share his insights on "Three Keys to Excelling in Graduate Programmes: Meticulous Preparation, Self-Discovery, and Avoiding Bad Habits."
At the seminar, Professor Tse will highlight three key attributes to improve teaching effectiveness for mature students in graduate programmes. He will explain the necessity of meticulous class preparation to earn students' trust and establish legitimacy. This emphasis is especially needed in a fast-changing world and for topics (e.g., marketing) that may change on weekly basis. Additionally, he will share his journey of finding one's true self in classroom as time goes by, a precursor for an enjoyable career in university education. Finally, he will address common bad habits that university teachers unconsciously cumulate overtime and provide insights on how to avoid them based on his own experiences.
