General Entrance Requirements
Applicants must fulfill the following requirements for admission:
1. A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent; and
2. For programmes with an English language proficiency requirement, documentary evidence demonstrating the applicant's English proficiency*, which may include:
- A degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or
- A minimum of 550 (paper-based); 79 (internet-based) in TOEFL / TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition*; or
- A minimum of 6.0 in IELTS (Academic) (Test centre based / Online)* ; or
- A minimum of 430 in College English Test-Band 6 (CET-6) or “Pass” if the test was taken before June 2005 ; or
- Equivalent of the above
*Remarks: TOEFL and IELTS results are considered valid two years from the test date.
Starting from the September 2024 intake, Duolingo will no longer be accepted as meeting the English language requirements.
3. For programmes with a Chinese language proficiency requirement, documentary evidence demonstrating the applicant's Chinese proficiency*, which may include:
- A degree programme of which the medium of instruction was Chinese; or
- Level 3 in Chinese Language of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) or ≥100 in Chinese Language of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE); or
- Level 5 in Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi ; or
- Equivalent of the above.

Visiting Student
All Postgraduate (PG) programmes of HSUHK accept Visiting Students who may, according to their interests or needs, take one or more modules of a PG programme but do not intend to complete a postgraduate degree. Upon completion of the module(s) registered, the student will be issued a transcript to certify his / her study at the University. Visiting Students have to abide by the Academic Regulations applicable to PG students and they are required to pay for the module(s) they registered unless there is an exchange agreement between HSUHK and their home institutions with a reciprocal home-fee paying arrangement. All other fees and charges, e.g. application fee, caution money, student ID card, additional copies of transcript, etc., will apply.
Applicants for admission as Visiting Student of a PG programme should possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, and admission will be subject to approval of respective offering Department / School.
