On 30 October 2024, Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong successfully hosted the second session of the Postgraduate Student Seminar Series.
In this session, the Graduate School welcomed Professor Choy Siu-kai, the Associate Dean of Graduate School and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Insurance, to deliver the lecture titled "Introduction to Research Methods." Professor Choy systematically addressed fundamental and critical questions related to research, including what constitutes research, its importance, how to select a research topic, the various categories of research, distinctions between different research methods, how to articulate research findings, and key ethical considerations. His presentation offered a clear pathway through the research process, highlighting essential points to consider at each stage.
A total of 26 postgraduate students participated in the seminar and engaged actively during the lecture. Feedback from participants indicated that the seminar series is highly relevant to their academic needs, practical in application, and overall satisfying. 15 participants completed the evaluation form after the lecture, and all respondents (100%) expressed that the seminar helped them gain valuable skills and knowledge, achieving the intended learning outcomes. Furthermore, 100% of participants found the lecture material useful and relevant to their current research needs and interests.
