HSUHK scholar shares insights on international education hub development at academic symposium

Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Provost and Vice President (Academic and Research) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), delivered a keynote address at the Academic Symposium on the Integrated Development of Teacher Education in the Greater Bay Area and Conference on the 40 Years of South China Normal University’s Educational Endeavors in Macao: Retrospect and Prospect on 13 December 2025. The event, hosted by South China Normal University, gathered education leaders to strategize on deepening regional academic cooperation in alignment with national development priorities.

In his speech, Professor Mok presented findings from his recent research, analyzing Hong Kong’s pursuit to become an international education hub in Asia and its significant implications for fostering educational collaboration across the Greater Bay Area. His insights highlighted pathways for synergy between Hong Kong’s global connectivity and the Chinese Mainland’s educational scale and innovation capacity.

The conference featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including deans of education faculties from The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, and South China Normal University. It attracted over 200 participants from across the Chinese Mainland, facilitating robust dialogue on advancing high-quality education through strategic partnerships.

The conference also served as a productive platform for building closer relations with key education institutions within the Greater Bay Area, exploring concrete avenues for future joint initiatives, student exchanges, and research projects. The discussions underscored a shared commitment to leveraging collective strengths, in line with national policy, to enhance educational quality, promote talent development, and support the integrated growth of the Greater Bay Area as a dynamic knowledge and innovation region.
