On May 2, 2024, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) showcased its cutting-edge technology at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, where Dr. George Ho, Associate Professor in the School of Decision Sciences’ Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, was honored with a Silver Award. His project, developed in collaboration with Chef Digital Limited and funded by the Research Matching Grant Scheme from the University Grants Committee, demonstrated exceptional innovation in event management.

Entitled “OPlusO Hub: Event Management in the Metaverse,” the project seamlessly integrates virtual and physical event experiences using AI to analyze attendee behavior. It is structured around a three-phase event lifecycle: Pre-Event, During-Event, and After-Event. Initially, participants create a digital avatar through facial recognition technologies and the GenAi Kiosk system, setting the stage for their entry into the Metaverse. During the event, attendees navigate a hybrid environment, exploring a virtual exhibition space without physical limitations, using avatars to attend talks and visit booths. Meanwhile, Indoor Positioning Services (IPS) enhance the physical interaction by directing them to booths that align with their interests, ensuring a personalized experience. The final phase leverages IPS and big data analytics to evaluate attendee behavior, providing organizers with critical insights to refine and enhance the efficacy of future events.

This groundbreaking project not only underscores HSUHK's role in advancing digital transformation in event management but also reinforces its commitment to impacting society through innovative research and the dissemination of knowledge.
