Shaping Future Education: Professional Development Leadership Programme for Master Teachers of Primary and Secondary Schools in Guangdong Province Concludes Successfully

On 19 November, the two-week “Shaping Future Education: Professional Development Leadership Programme for Master Teachers of Primary and Secondary Schools in Guangdong Province” concluded successfully at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. With the theme “United in the Greater Bay Area: Advancing Virtue and Learning Together,” the programme focused on the professional development of Master Teacher Studio Leaders and the enhancement of their team leadership capabilities. Through several days of intensive study,  it provided a platform for profound dialogue between educational philosophy and practical innovation for the twenty-five master teacher studio leads from Guangdong Province.

Building a Macro Perspective: An In-Depth Understanding of Hong Kong's Educational Landscape

Guided by the core principles of “Leadership, Integration, Innovation, and  Influence,” the programme provided participants with a systematic, holistic understanding of Hong Kong’s basic education system. Through expert lectures and policy analyses, participants gained deep insight into the evolution of Hong Kong’s education policies, the overarching logic of curriculum reform, and the educational philosophies underpinning assessment mechanisms such as the Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA). These engagements laid a solid foundation for forward-looking, cross-regional educational collaboration under the national strategy for integrated development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

Immersive School Visits: First-hand Experience of Educational Innovation in Hong Kong

During school visits, participants engaged in in-depth tours of several distinctive primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong. Through classroom observations, communication with principals, and subject-based seminars, they gained first-hand exposure to the diverse and innovative practices of Hong Kong education:

  • Lingnan University Alumni Association (Hong Kong) Primary School implements small-class liberal arts education, promoting “Joyful Learning and Whole-person Development.”
  • Fanling Kau Yan College exemplifies teaching approaches centred on “self-directed and joyful learning.”
  • CCC Kei To Secondary School exemplified a “Student-centred, Learning-focused” educational model.
  • Hong Kong Sea School inspires students’ potential through specialised career planning education.
  • Baptist (STW) Lui Ming Choi Primary School showcased the deep integration of information technology and teaching.
  • CCC Heep Woh College systematically presents knowledge resource integration and the development of a school-based knowledge repository, advancing the integration of “teaching, learning, and research.”

These vivid cases offered participants multiple perspectives on education and inspired in-depth reflection on curriculum leadership and pedagogical innovation.

Specialized Workshops & Education Forums: Focusing on Teaching, Research, Leadership, & AI Empowerment

The programme featured a series of specialized workshops and education forums addressing the core theme of “Teaching Research Leadership and Team Empowerment Strategies in Master Teacher Studios.”

At the education forum on “Practice and Reflection on the Integration of AI in Education,” participants and guests explored applications of artificial intelligence in teaching to enhance leadership in smart education.

In the Specialized Workshops, numerous Hong Kong education experts and principals shared insights on topics such as systemic leadership, classroom transformation, comparative pedagogy between the Mainland and Hong Kong, educational mission and values, curriculum enablement, and AI applications across different levels of school operations.

These high-quality professional exchanges not only deepened dialogue on educational practice between Guangdong and Hong Kong but also provided actionable approaches for Master Teacher Studio Leaders in research-led innovation and team building, further strengthening their regional leadership and influence.

Outcomes and Prospects: Advancing Synergistic Educational Development in the Greater Bay Area

Through this intensive programme, participants gained a systematic understanding of Hong Kong’s advanced educational philosophies and practices, while sparking innovative thinking through cross-cultural and cross-system exchange. Many expressed their commitment to translating the insights and experiences from the Hong Kong visit into locally applicable professional development plans, curriculum resources, and research outputs—achieving a step change from conceptual renewal to practical innovation.

The successful implementation of this programme not only enhanced the professional competencies and team leadership of Master Teacher Studio Leaders in Guangdong Province, but also injected fresh impetus into co-ordinated educational development across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
