In October 2026, the Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), in collaboration with the Baptist Sha Tin Education Centre, organised the four-session Workplace Cantonese Class under the HIGH Programme. The course aimed to strengthen postgraduate students' practical Cantonese communication skills and prepare them for internships, job interviews and future employment in Hong Kong.
Across four sessions, students developed practical Cantonese skills for job interviews, professional interactions and everyday workplace communication, including conversations with colleagues, expressing ideas and reporting work progress.
Each session featured engaging games and interactive activities, encouraging students to practise speaking Cantonese in a supportive environment. The instructor also provided one-on-one guidance after each class, helping students improve their pronunciation and build confidence.
By combining practical language skills with interactive learning and individual support, the course enhanced students' workplace communication skills and career readiness, reflecting the HIGH Programme's commitment to supporting postgraduate students' professional development in Hong Kong.
Student Voices
Deng Linquan, a student in the Master of Arts in Art Business programme, shared, "The course content was very practical. Although I also learn Cantonese through online platforms, the instructor's one-to-one pronunciation guidance helped me identify my mistakes more clearly and improve my speaking skills."
Zhou Junbei, a student in the Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme, commented, "I could already speak some Cantonese, but I was less familiar with formal workplace expressions. This course helped me learn more professional ways to communicate and feel better prepared for upcoming job interviews and internships."
